Tips for deep frying a turkey

September 26th, 2007, 3:34 pm

I just love this delicacy during a cook out or tailgate party!

Here are a few tips that will help you out on your deep frying adventure.

  • Always make sure the turkey is completely thawed.
  • Clean the turkey in same manner as for roasting.
  • Do not stuff.
  • Rub dry seasoning inside and out when using dry or inject liquid seasoning.
  • Determine how much oil to use by following this little tip.
    • Fill pot with water.
    • Lower turkey into water.  (The water should cover turkey without spilling over-adjust accordingly.)
    • Remove turkey and measure water.
    • Discard water and fill pot with oil.
  • Heat oil to at least 310 degrees, before adding turkey.
  • Be careful of oil splattering when lowering turkey into hot oil.

Cooking time table:

  • Skinless turkey
    • 3 minutes per pound
  • Turkey with skin
    • 3  ½ minutes per pound

Let turkey set for 20 min before carving.

Now enjoy! fryer.jpg

GO PENN STATE!!!

Penn State is playing Michigan today and I have to miss the game.  My son is playing his own football game today.

I am a born and raised Michigan girl who converted to a Penn State fan when I moved to Pennsylvania about 6 years ago.  This game is the toughest game for me to watch.  I have an internal fight inside, but alway scream for Penn State!

Chocolate Covered Cherries with a Twist!

September 20th, 2007, 10:25 pm

Tonight while I was talking with some friends I heard a great party idea!  Chocolate Covered Cherries with a twist.

My mouth started to water while we were discussing these.

First, drain a jar of maricno cherries.  Then soak them in grain alcohol over night.  Again, drain and let dry.

Melt Hersheys Chocolate over low heat or in a warmer.  Dip the alcohol soaked cherries in the chocolate and let cool on wax paper.

Tada!!!  A perfect addition to your party with an added kick!

Babies, Babies, Babies!

September 17th, 2007, 9:13 pm

It seems like everytime I turn around I am hearing about someone new expecting a baby… How great for them all! I love planning babyshowers, and loved the theme for one I went to recently.

On the invitation, ask everyone to bring a onsie with them. You will be amazed at the cute sayings and designs that they come in.

Buy a couple packages of children’s hangers. If you don’t know the sex of the baby, they do have white and neutral colored ones. You can also use clothes pins.
Hang a clothesline across the room to hang each of the onsies as the guests arrive. (Instant decoration!)

You can get these great baby shower favors at Party Favor Mall. They continue the theme of the party.

Here is a tip to keep those burgers, brats, and dogs hot!

When grilling for a large number of people, have you ever had a problem keeping hamburgers, brats or hot dogs hot and moist?  Here is a little tip that my mom told me.

What you will need:

  • 2 cans beer
  • 1 stick oleo
  • 3 chicken boullion cubes
  • 2 large onions sliced

Mix all ingredients in a large roaster, heat over medium heat.  Add your burgers, brats or hot dogs as they get done.

This will keep all of your meat hot and moist.

Vegas Baby!!!

We just got back from Las Vegas, and as usual, it was a blast!!!  I love Vegas, but if you read my About Me page, you already knew that.

I am back, and I am sleep deprived.

My husband and I went for a mini-vacation.  As much as we have been working lately, we needed some R&R.  Although, never do we completely go “business-free.”

While in Las Vegas, we went on a night helicopter ride over the Strip.  It was amazing.

Las Vegas from the sky

To see all the lights and the activity of the Strip got your heart beating just a little faster… or was that the fact that I was flying around in the air.

I recommend the helicopter ride next time you go to Vegas.

We also went to see the Phantom of the Opera at The Venetian.  It was amazing.  I suggest if you go to a show when you are in Vegas, you go on the first night.  I loved the show, and thank goodness that it was GREAT because I was so tired!!!

As usual, it was a great trip to Vegas!!!
